US Central Command Requests Permission to Use Hypersonic Missiles in War with Iran

The US Army Central Command has sent a request to the Pentagon to deploy Dark Eagle hypersonic missiles in the Middle East, reports Bloomberg, citing sources.
The request explains the need to use systems not yet adopted for service by stating that Iran has moved ballistic missile launchers deep within its territory, making them unreachable for American missiles, Bloomberg writes.
If the request is approved, this will be the first deployment of US hypersonic missiles, however, a decision has not yet been made, the agency notes.
According to Bloomberg, the range of Dark Eagle is about 3,500 kilometers, and so far no more than eight such missiles have been produced. The cost of each is about $15 million.
Currently, a truce declared by US President Donald Trump is in effect in the conflict between Iran and the United States. He has repeatedly stated that the end of the war is near, but negotiations with Tehran have reached an impasse. According to Bloomberg, CENTCOM's request may indicate the military's readiness to continue the war if Trump makes such a decision.
