Activity of a large fraud network involving over 80 people stopped
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the criminals deceived Belarusians over the phone, posing as employees of various organizations (postal services, housing and communal services, polyclinics) and law enforcement agencies.
Since the beginning of the year, the police have been receiving an increasing number of reports about large-sum thefts.
The scheme was familiar: a person would receive a call supposedly from some organization or law enforcement agency, and then, using psychological pressure, would be persuaded to hand over their savings.
By studying similar cases, operatives discovered links between participants in fraudulent schemes in various regions of the country. Gradually, an entire network was uncovered, in which everyone had their role.
According to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the group included over 80 people. The trail led to one of the cities in the Brest region.
Among them were couriers, drops (people through whose accounts other people's money passes), and specialists responsible for equipment operation.
Law enforcement also identified the organizers and curators of the scheme, who are located in a neighboring state. As a result of the operation, equipment worth over 60,000 rubles was seized.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs' assessment, thefts totaling over 10 million rubles were prevented, and more than two thousand people were protected from fraudsters.
