In Salihorsk, a cat stepped on an induction hob — the entire apartment burned down
The cat died.
A sad story was told on Threads by Anastasia Lysak from Salihorsk.
The family went to the capital, leaving the cat alone at home. How it happened is unclear, but the beloved pet managed to turn on the induction hob. Anastasia says that the sensor worked quite easily.
Probably, problems could have been avoided if there had been nothing on the hob. Modern appliances quickly switch off by themselves in such cases. But by tragic coincidence, there was a pot of soup on it. When the liquid boiled away, a fire started.
As a result, the kitchen burned down, and other rooms were damaged — all walls and ceilings covered in soot. Wallpaper needs to be replaced, doors need to be changed. The woman says they had insurance, but it won't cover all necessary expenses.
The cat itself died — suffocated by the smoke. Now Anastasia urges everyone not to forget to put a lock on their hobs.
In the comments, people share that they have encountered similar situations: «The hob was locked, but the cat still unlocked it. Luckily, I was home with my child and saw the fire, quickly put everything out. The fear is now constant, I can't even sleep peacefully at night, I thought we would suffocate», «My cat unlocked the hob and caused a fire while I was celebrating March 8th in another city. Since then, I unplug the hob immediately after cooking», «Our cat somehow turned on the hob, on which there was a pot of food. All the food burned, the pot was black, but it was fine. Since then, the hob always has 'child mode' enabled, even when I'm home», «My cats also turned on the hob once. Luckily, only what was on it burned. I am very sorry for your loss.»
