Andriy Sybiha: Ukraine will take mirrored measures in response to Minsk's actions
Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha stated that Kyiv will act on the principle of a "mirror response" to possible steps by Belarus. According to him, Ukraine does not yet expect direct involvement of Belarus in the war but is closely monitoring all potential threats.
Andriy Sybiha noted that Kyiv proceeds from the assumption that the Belarusian authorities will not get involved in the war, as they understand that any hostile actions will receive an appropriate response.
He also reported that Belarus had previously sent a note through the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk with a proposal to introduce a certain special regime for visiting the border zone — to allow Ukrainians to gather mushrooms and berries on Belarusian territory. At the same time, according to Sybiha, the document contains references to agreements that are no longer valid, as Ukraine has withdrawn from both the relevant CIS documents and bilateral agreements with Belarus. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has already officially stated that it is not interested in this proposal.
The minister added that Ukrainian intelligence and other services constantly monitor the situation in Belarus. According to him, they analyze changes in Belarusian legislation, the reorganization of military units, the number of troops near the Ukrainian border, joint activities of Belarus and Russia, and the possibility of using Belarusian infrastructure for attacks on Ukraine.
Sybiha emphasized that the warnings voiced by the President of Ukraine are not empty statements, and the Belarusian authorities should be aware of this.
