Lukashenka Supported Proposal to Enlarge Drybin District

"At one time, a similar question was raised, and I answered it 25 years ago: Drybin District shall be." Aliaksandr Lukashenka supported the proposal to enlarge Drybin District. This was stated to journalists by Anatol Isachenka, chairman of the Mogilev Regional Executive Committee, following a meeting with the head of state.

One of the topics of the meeting on the development of the Mogilev region was proposals for the enlargement of Drybin District by including lands of agricultural organizations from Mogilev, Horki, and Chausy districts into its composition.

"At one time, a similar question was raised, and I answered it 25 years ago: Drybin District shall be. But we need to think about what it should be like. It should correspond to the average size of districts in our country — this was the starting point," Lukashenka said. "The government, the governor, and the authorized representative for the Mogilev region, along with interested parties, were instructed to seriously consider and submit proposals on this matter. The fact that this district needs to be enlarged and truly put the chairman of the district executive committee and his colleagues to work is a fact."

Lukashenka noted that he had already set the task of creating the necessary infrastructure in Drybin District and making it no worse than in other district centers.

"It has been created. The infrastructure in the district center is no worse than in others. Of course, this is not Horki district, where the academy (referring to the Belarusian State Agricultural Academy. — NN.) creates a certain beauty, but it is a very normal and average district. In terms of size — it's nothing," he added.

Lukashenka said that people's opinion on this matter is important to him, but not now.

"What do people in all the mentioned districts think about this? People's opinion is very important, but only after we tell them what we want. Have the possible consequences and further actions been worked out? How much will this cost the budget and citizens? I thought it would cost nothing. But if some farms need support — we will support them. And most importantly: will there be a positive social and economic effect?" he inquired.

The meaning of such changes is not yet clear.
