"One can only speak the language of force, and France possesses such force." Latushka commented on Macron's call to Lukashenka

Diplomatic contact between Paris and Minsk makes sense only as an ultimatum, not as an attempt to negotiate. According to NAU head Pavel Latushka, any agreements with a regime whose independence is at a historical low will carry no weight without a prior resolution of the internal Belarusian crisis.

Reacting to Emmanuel Macron's phone conversation with Alexander Lukashenka, the politician noted that the only effective argument in communicating with the Minsk regime is a position of strength.

"The person who drew a target on the map of Belarus by participating in another Russian nuclear blackmail against Belarus's neighbors must clearly understand the consequences of his actions. He must understand that he will bear full responsibility for any aggressive actions and military provocations from the territory of Belarus. One can only speak to Lukashenka in the language of force and warnings from a position of strength. France undoubtedly possesses such force," said Pavel Latushka.

At the same time, the head of NAU urged Western partners not to harbor illusions about the weight of any promises that might come from Minsk. He emphasized that Lukashenka is "a person incapable of guaranteeing any promises, because his agency today is at its lowest level in all 30+ years of his rule. Any agreements with him by Western leaders, bypassing Belarusian society and democratic forces, will not be stable or trustworthy."

Latushka sees the only path to genuine stabilization in the region as resolving the internal Belarusian conflict, which must precede any foreign policy agreements.

"The prerequisite for any agreements and guarantees of their implementation by Belarus can only be the prior resolution of the internal Belarusian crisis through a full-fledged dialogue between the current functional authorities and Belarusian democratic forces and civil society. Only Belarus, which undergoes its version of a 'Round Table,' systemic transformation, and overcomes its internal crisis, can become a full-fledged party to external agreements and a guarantor of their fulfillment," the politician concluded.
