EU bans selling laptops without USB-C charging

For user convenience, all devices are being switched to a single standard.

On April 28, 2026, a new rule officially came into force in the European Union: all new laptops must support USB-C charging, reports Gsmarena.com

This is the final stage of implementing the EU directive on a single standard for power devices, which previously already affected phones, tablets, and other electronics. Now the standard also extends to laptops.

The law does not prohibit having other connectors in addition to the mandatory one. But USB-C must be mandatory.

A minor exception to this rule currently remains: gaming and other powerful laptops that consume more than 100 W can still use traditional round power connectors like DC jack.

The main goal of the initiative is to reduce the amount of electronic waste and simplify users' lives.

In the future, the European Union intends to ban laptops with non-removable batteries so that users have no difficulties replacing them. By the way, this rule comes into force for smartphones from February 2027.

Забараняць і рэгуляваць чужое яны канешне мастакі. А як наконт таго, каб распрацоўваць і вырабляць свае?
