"Scrolling through TikTok, I saw a woman talking about fraudsters." A Minsk resident almost became a courier for phone scammers
But he lost his 40 thousand rubles.
A 53-year-old Minsk resident believed pseudo-employees of "Vodokanal" (Water Utility) and dictated a code from an SMS message, Minsk police report.
Then, pseudo-employees of the State Control Committee contacted him and informed him that fraudsters had allegedly taken possession of his digital signature and opened a loan in his name. To cancel this debt, the man was advised to take out a "mirror" loan for the same amount himself.
Believing that law enforcement officers were helping him, the man went to the bank and took out a loan for 40 thousand rubles. After that, he met with a woman whom he believed to be a courier for the National Bank, and handed her all the money ostensibly to pay off the loan.
Some time later, the fraudsters called the Minsk resident again and offered him to become their courier. He agreed.
However, even before receiving the first order, he saw a video on a social network from Minsk police officers, in which a victim of a similar scam scheme recounted her story.
Then the man realized he was involved in a crime and contacted the police.
