An unusual product from Malaysia has appeared on the shelves of Minsk stores. In the capital's supermarkets, you can taste fruit that combines the sweetness of an apple, the sourness of citrus, and a light grape note. These are carambola fruits, writes Tochka.by.

The fruit is sold by weight. A kilogram will cost 104.99 rubles.
Carambola, or star fruit, is a tropical fruit that has a characteristic shape when sliced (resembling a five-pointed star). It grows predominantly in Southeast Asia, but is also cultivated in other tropical and subtropical regions.
The pulp of the fruit is juicy, yet maintains a dense texture, making this fruit versatile for various culinary applications.

The taste of carambola is very unusual. It combines the sweetness of an apple, the acidity of citrus, and a light grape flavor. Unripe fruit tastes more sour, similar to lime, while ripe fruits become sweet and refreshing.
Depending on the degree of ripeness, the taste can vary from neutral to distinctly pronounced, allowing carambola to be eaten on its own, or used in salads, desserts, or drinks. The fruit adds a mild tartness and pleasant sweetness to dishes.
In addition, carambola is rich in vitamins (especially vitamin C) and antioxidants.
