The American side at the meeting in Oslo will try to persuade Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to agree to territorial concessions for a deal with Russia. The New York Times writes about this.

US President Donald Trump is increasingly determined to impose a deal on Zelenskyy. The US wants to explain to the Ukrainian leader that holding onto territories is not worth it. Moreover, Ukraine will also be able to "earn" if it drops its objections to the agreement.
Trump's aides call the current moment a turning point and insist that Zelenskyy must prove his readiness to negotiate with Russia, even if it means ceding territory.
"This will be the American message to Zelenskyy on Tuesday in Oslo," writes NYT.
On October 20, Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with the Ukrainian president. US President's son-in-law Jared Kushner will join remotely, as he fell ill. Also participating in the discussion will be Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. After the talks in Oslo, Witkoff intends to go to Moscow.
According to Axios, before the trip, American negotiators presented Trump with an updated settlement plan and received instructions from him. Representatives of the E4 group, which includes Great Britain, Germany, France, and Poland, the European Union, and NATO, are also expected in Oslo.
