A significant part of Europe has been covered by intense heat. In several countries, air temperatures approached 40 degrees Celsius, forcing authorities to declare elevated danger levels and implement additional safety measures, writes Reuters.

The situation is particularly difficult in Italy, where after several days of temperatures above 35 degrees, a red alert level was declared in several major cities, including Bologna, Florence, Milan, and Turin. In Rome, people sought refuge from the sun under umbrellas even during the Pope's traditional Sunday prayer.
In Spain, meteorologists also issued red and orange warnings. In many regions of the country and on the island of Mallorca, temperatures exceed 39-40 degrees. According to forecasts, the heat will persist for several more days.
In Germany, temperatures reached 38 degrees in some places. At the same time, meteorologists warned of strong thunderstorms in the east of the country. In Berlin, an open-air music festival was even interrupted due to heavy rainfall.
The cause of the anomalous heat is hot air from the Sahara Desert, moving north under the influence of a powerful anticyclone. Meteorologists note that the so-called "heat dome" traps hot air over Western and Central Europe, leading to a further increase in temperature.
Not only people but also animals suffer from the heat. In Belgium, a wildlife rescue center reports a large number of birds and other animals showing signs of heat stress. Some chicks even leave their nests prematurely to escape overheating.
Experts note that due to climate change, waves of extreme heat in Europe are becoming increasingly frequent and intense.
