Sardinian Restaurants Introduce Smartphone Ban at Family Tables
On the Italian island of Sardinia, 15 restaurants will ban smartphones at family tables for a month.

The experiment aims to help parents and children talk more during meals instead of spending time staring at screens, writes Bild.
The "At the Table Without Screens" initiative was launched by Anna Cau, the Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents of Sardinia, in cooperation with the local branch of the restaurant association Fipe-Confcommercio. The establishments joined the project voluntarily.
Instead of phones, families are offered a special set with board games, coloring books, and other activities for children. It will also include pediatricians' recommendations on the risks of excessive use of digital devices and advice on using social networks.
The organizers believe that smartphones are increasingly replacing family conversations, and parents often give them to children to keep them from getting bored while waiting for food. The project should help restore the social role of shared lunches and dinners.
If the experiment is successful, it may be extended to other restaurants on the island.
