Leader of the far-right "Alternative for Germany" promised to restore oil and gas imports from Russia if victorious in elections
In an interview with Reuters, Alice Weidel stated that Germany should abandon the embargo on Russian oil and gas imports to support the country's weakened economy.

According to her, the "Alternative for Germany" expects to win elections in two federal states in the coming months. The party hopes this will be an important step towards victory in the national elections, which are to be held no later than 2029. Weidel expects to take the position of Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany "in these elections or the next."
"Cheap energy from Russia was the secret to the success of the 'Made in Germany' brand. We need to get it back," Weidel stated, ignoring the fact that Germany's economic success was established after the Second World War, when no energy supplies from the USSR existed. Furthermore, it is explained by specialization in high-tech production, active research and development, and other factors not directly related to energy resources, writes the Moscow Times.
Economic stagnation in Germany began as early as 2019, although the loss of cheap Russian energy resources three years later dealt it an additional blow. According to Weidel, this set the country back several years.
"Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost. This has made us dependent on the United States, which sells us energy resources at much higher prices," she said.
The Kremlin actively supported the "Alternative for Germany" even before the start of the war against Ukraine and maintains contacts with the party. In early June, Bundestag deputy from "AfD" Markus Frohnmaier visited the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
At a meeting with Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, he discussed the possibility of resuming the operation of the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
