Safety or appearance? News Nation correspondent Libby Dean asked US President Donald Trump if he considers wearing a bulletproof vest.
"I don't know if I can stand looking 20 pounds heavier," Trump replied. "These guys look so good," he added with a laugh, apparently referring to the Secret Service agents guarding him - in bulletproof vests, writes Bild.
Then the president replied seriously: "I think that's something to think about." However, Trump has not only aesthetic doubts.
He wouldn't want to wear a vest, "because it means a concession to a bad element" - obviously referring to those who hate him so much that they are ready to try to kill him.
On the evening of April 25, teacher Cole Thomas Allen attempted an assassination of Trump during a Correspondents' Association reception at the Hilton Hotel in Washington. This incident sparked discussions about security measures at events involving the president. One Secret Service agent was wounded by the assailant, but his bulletproof vest saved him.
Over the past two years, Trump has survived three assassination attempts.
In July 2024, a man shot him in Pennsylvania, and the bullet grazed Trump's ear. In September 2024, another man attempted to shoot him during a golf game in Florida; the attacker was sentenced to life imprisonment. Now Trump has escaped a third assassination attempt.
