After cleaning, the monument changed its usual dull grey color to a rich black and began to shine in the sun.
The Lenin monument on Independence Square was unveiled in 1933. It was created by architect Iosif Langbard and sculptor Matvey Manizer. During World War II, the sculpture was destroyed by German soldiers, but it was restored after the war. Since then, the monument has remained steadfastly in its place, and even during the brief democratic period of the first half of the 1990s, no one dared to remove it, although the question was raised.
