Taxi drivers asked MARG for permission to raise tariffs

Belarusian taxi drivers have appealed to the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MARG) with a request to raise tariffs. The Association of Passenger Carriers by Taxi shared the response.

The ministry reported that taxi service tariffs are not subject to state price regulation. Entities determine them independently, taking into account numerous factors: costs, market conditions, marketing policy, and others.

— Currently, in the transport sector, price regulation applies to those services that provide social standards and guarantees to the population for regular passenger transportation, — MARG noted.

They advised that when making decisions about price increases, one should adhere to nationwide approaches to fair pricing and the forecasted inflation level for 2026 (7%).

— In this regard, the increase in tariffs for passenger transportation by taxi in the amount proposed by the Association (by 30%) is currently not supported by MARG, — the message states.

According to the ministry, a repeated request to increase taxi tariffs may be possible based on the results of the first half of 2026, taking into account the consumer price index.
