The "Northern Lights" Film Festival will be held this year in the format of a film weekend in Warsaw
This year, the "Northern Lights" film festival will be held in a condensed format — as a mini-festival "Zzya weekend". It will take place from December 11 to 13, 2026, at Warsaw's Kinoteka cinema. All screenings will be offline only, writes Reform.news.

The organizers decided to change the format due to financial difficulties faced by Belarusian cultural projects in exile, as well as for security reasons. After the Belarusian authorities declared the festival an "extremist formation," the team had to look for safe ways to communicate with the Belarusian audience. Therefore, this year the main focus will be on viewers outside Belarus.
The work on the project was also influenced by personal circumstances of the festival's founder and director, Volia Chaikouskaya. A year and a half ago, she became a mother, so motherhood now occupies a significant part of her strength.
Despite the reduced program, the organizers intend to maintain the festival's tradition of showing films from Nordic and Baltic countries and creating a space for free dialogue.
During "Zzya weekend," selected festival films will be shown to the audience. Details of the program and ticket information will be announced later by the organizers on social media. The festival can also be supported through monetary donations.
"Northern Lights" is a festival of films from Nordic and Baltic countries, founded by Belarusian producer and director Volia Chaikouskaya in 2015. For many years, it remained one of the main film events for Belarusians, introducing audiences to contemporary fiction and documentary films from Northern Europe and the Baltics, as well as works by independent Belarusian filmmakers.
