Nadezhda and Vladimir Kalach, leaders of the folk band Irdorath and former political prisoners, welcomed their firstborn son.
«On July 12, 2026, under the midsummer sun, a little dragon burst into this world to make it better. Meet Yan Irdorath Kalach,» — a message appeared on the band's Facebook page.
Nadezhda and Vladimir Kalach were detained in August 2021 for their participation in the 2020 protests. The reason was their performance during one of the marches, playing bagpipes. In 2022, Nadezhda and Vladimir were found guilty of organizing actions that the authorities deemed a gross violation of public order and were sentenced to two years of imprisonment.
After their release in spring 2023, the couple left Belarus and moved to Berlin, where they continued their musical activities. In recent years, they have been actively performing in various European countries.
Previously, Nadezhda and Vladimir shared that they had long dreamed of having a child, but the realization of this plan was first hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic, and later by the events of 2020, their detention, and forced emigration. Now this dream has finally come true.
