Chapel demolished by drunk driver to be restored in Smarhon region
The restoration of the 19th-century Catholic chapel in the village of Rasla in the Smarhon district is planned to begin at the end of July and be completed by September 2026, writes Katolik.life. This is the same roadside chapel that a drunk driver demolished in October 2025. It was a historical and cultural monument.

On July 7, an announcement appeared seeking an organization to carry out repair and restoration work. It is estimated that they will cost 27 thousand rubles.

Prior to this, 5 thousand rubles were allocated for research and design work. This means that a total sum equivalent to 11 thousand dollars will be spent on the restoration of the chapel.
Previously, the local prosecutor's office reported that the amount spent on the works would be recovered from the culprit, whose car overturned after hitting the chapel and was completely wrecked, but the driver miraculously survived.
In the Smarhon region, there are 16 such brick roadside chapels. They are so unique; there are no others quite like them anywhere else.
