Shashlik for May Holidays. Comparing Prices in Belarus and Poland

May holidays are approaching in Belarus — a time for outdoor trips and shashlik. "Salidarnasc" calculated how much a shashlik grocery run would cost, and compared prices with Poland, where grilling is also popular during these days.

From groceries, we choose meat — chicken fillet, thighs, pork, and grill sausages. From vegetables — potatoes, onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, and radishes. From sauces — ketchup and mayonnaise. We also take meat seasoning, bread, mineral water, and kvass.

We do our shopping online — using the delivery services of Belarusian "Evroopt" and Polish "Auchan".

Evroopt

We add one kilogram of "Piatrukha" chicken fillet to the cart for 13.4 rubles. Then "Dzyarzhynka" thighs — at 11.54 per kilo. For pork, the shoulder part — it's currently on discount and will cost 17.99 rubles per kilo. We also look at grill sausages: pork sausages from the "Slonimski" meat processing plant will cost 20.83 rubles per kg.

We move to the vegetable section. Russian tomatoes are currently on discount — we take a kilo for 4.39 rubles. We also add "smooth" cucumbers to the cart — they are currently cheaper than "prickly" ones and will cost us 6.99 rubles per kilogram.

For a side dish, we look for a kilo of potatoes — it's 1.07 rubles (the most budget-friendly option). We also check radishes: Russian, Italian, and Belarusian are available. We take ours — 500 grams for 5.29 rubles.

For the marinade, we also buy onions — a kilo will cost 1.68 rubles. For salad, we look for green onions — 70 grams of "Fermerskaya" for 1.89 rubles. We also remember meat seasoning. We choose Lida seasoning for 1.59.

From sauces, we take 400g of "Provansal" mayonnaise. It's currently on discount for 2.99. We also put "Heinz" ketchup — 800g for 12.49 rubles — into the cart.

Bread and drinks remain. "Krivitski" bread — that's an additional 1.56 to our total. "Minskaya" mineral water will cost 1.82 rubles for 1.5 liters. Kvass, a classic, "Lidski" — one and a half liters for 3.89.

Final grocery basket total: 109.41 rubles.

Auchan

One kilogram of chicken fillet at "Auchan" will cost 26.9 zloty or 20.8 Belarusian rubles (here and further according to the exchange rate on April 29). The same amount of chicken thighs — 14.98 zloty (11.6 rubles). Pork shoulder costs 18.99 zloty (14.7 rubles) per kilo, and pork grill sausages — 23.99 zloty or 18.6 rubles.

The cheapest tomatoes for delivery are 10.99 zloty (8.5 rubles) per kilogram. "Smooth" cucumbers are sold individually — at 2.39 zloty each. One such cucumber weighs approximately 210g, so we take five: a kilogram will cost approximately 11.4 zloty (8.8 rubles).

The situation is similar with radishes — they are sold in bunches (about 150g) and cost 2.89 zloty. That means a kilo will come out to approximately 19.3 zloty (about 15 rubles).

Next, potatoes go into the cart — 1.98 zloty (1.5 rubles). Onions and green onions — 1.99 and 2.99 zloty (2.3 rubles) respectively. Meat seasoning will cost 1.74 zloty or 1.35 rubles.

We move on to sauces. Mayonnaise (400g) — 8.78 zloty (6.8 rubles), "Heinz" ketchup — 16.99 zloty (about 13 rubles) for 1000g (800g, as in Belarus, is not available). Half-kilogram "Vyaskovy" (Wiejski) bread for 4.39 zloty (3.4 rubles).

Drinks remain. One and a half liters of mineral water at Polish "Auchan" cost 1.18 zloty (90 kopecks). Kvass, however, is not as popular among Poles as it is among Belarusians. Nevertheless, "Slavyanski" is sold here, which resembles "Lidski" in both design and taste. One and a half liters — 13.69 zloty (about 10.5 rubles).

Final grocery basket total: 180.2 zloty. This is approximately 140 Belarusian rubles.

How many such grocery baskets can Belarusians and Poles afford?

According to official statistics, the average salary in Belarus before taxes is 2,975.8 rubles. This is approximately 2,588 rubles net. With this money, one can buy 23.65 such grocery baskets.

In Poland, the average net salary is 6,700 zloty (5,200 Belarusian rubles). With this money, one can buy 37.1 grocery baskets.

Полякам живётся богаче чем белорусам, и дешёвые помидоры с квасом не помогли.
