«There's no point in getting into arguments in such an environment. If you look at those who did, they weren't lucky,» Merz said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper ABC, answering a question about whether he uses any mantra to stay calm during conversations with Trump.

As an example, he cited the altercation between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump in February 2025, when the American leader harshly criticized Zelenskyy, and the latter was forced to leave the White House prematurely.
