"Passengers asked to slow down." Causes named for fatal minibus accident in Svetlahorsk district where six died

One of the passengers even managed to get off shortly before the accident.

The tragedy happened on the evening of October 10 last year, on the 72nd km of the Babruisk — Mazyr — Ukraine border road.

The 46-year-old driver of a Mercedes minibus was on a Minsk—Mazyr route. He went to overtake, clipped the semi-trailer of a tractor, after which the minibus veered into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a Volkswagen car.

According to the investigation, the minibus driver exceeded the speed limit by 11 km/h, failed to take measures to reduce it, and caused the collision.

"Investigators found that the victims repeatedly asked the minibus driver to slow down, but he ignored their requests, and one of the passengers, frightened by the accused's driving style, refused to continue the journey and left the vehicle shortly before the accident," the Investigative Committee reported.

Six people died, and 10 were hospitalized. The head of the traffic police, Viktar Rotchankau, personally visited the scene of the tragedy.
