Billionaire Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin company rocket exploded on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral in Florida (USA).
"During today's engine ignition test, an anomaly occurred," the company reported on May 29.
Bezos assured that all personnel are safe. The causes of the New Glenn rocket explosion have not yet been named. "It's a very difficult day, but we'll rebuild everything we need to and get back to flights. It's worth it," the billionaire wrote.
Blue Origin is a competitor to SpaceX. Its founder Elon Musk commented on the rocket incident: "Very sad. Rockets are tricky."
Blue Origin has a contract with the American space agency to supply a lunar lander for delivering astronauts to the Moon as part of NASA's Artemis program.
The Moon landing is scheduled for 2028.
