The US plans to unfreeze and return approximately 43-44 million dollars to Belarus, which were stuck in an American Citibank account. US Special Envoy for Belarus John Cole stated that the American side heard Lukashenka's request to return these funds and has already approached the bank with the corresponding request.

«These funds must be unfrozen and returned. We have approached the bank with a request to unfreeze them. We are now working on a mechanism of how to do this,» Cole said during a meeting with Lukashenka.

He added that the Belarusian side will receive information about further actions as soon as a specific response is received from the bank.

On September 11, Alexander Lukashenka spoke about these funds. According to him, these are funds paid by a company that cooperated with Belarus.

On September 15, Belarusian-American negotiations are taking place in Minsk. Lukashenka is meeting with representatives of US President Donald Trump's team. The American delegation is led by Special Envoy John Cole.
