Trump to lift tariffs on Irish whiskey, as "everyone asked"

US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday, at the end of a golf tournament in Ireland, that he plans to lift the 10 percent tariff on Irish whiskey, AP writes.
During the awards ceremony for the winners of the Irish Open, Trump said that everyone had asked him about it, including Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin and even some golfers.
According to Trump, Irish Open winner Shane Lowry was among them.
"Everyone has been bothering me with this request," Trump said. "And I said: 'On behalf of the United States of America, I will lift the tariffs'" (on Irish whiskey).
Currently, Irish whiskey is subject to the standard tariff imposed by Trump on most imported goods from the European Union. In July, this tariff was reduced from 15% to 10%.
In April, Trump announced the repeal of some tariffs on whiskey from the United Kingdom, including Scotch whiskey and alcoholic beverages produced in Northern Ireland. This created an imbalance with respect to Ireland.
