Grass in the middle of the river. The Sozh in Gomel has also become very shallow
In Gomel, residents have noticed the unusually severe shallowing of the Sozh River. Some note that they haven't seen the river in such a state in the last ten years — in places, grass is already growing in the middle of the riverbed, and a small island has formed in front of the bridge near the agro-town Babovichi, writes the publication «Shtodzen».

According to the Allrivers website, on August 24, the water level in the Sozh in Gomel was minus 15 cm relative to the zero level of the post. Over the last day, the water dropped by another 1 cm.
Usually during this period, the level is about plus 40 cm. The lowest indicator on this day was recorded only in 2015 — minus 25 cm.

According to Belgidromet (Belarusian Hydrometeorological Center) information, since August 20, the Sozh water level in Gomel has been below the mark required for navigation.

Residents of the region also report significant shallowing of other rivers. They say that a similar situation is observed in the Dnieper near Rechytsa and in the Pripyat. Some also complain that the riverbeds have not been cleaned for a long time.
