Elon Musk's "Wikipedia Killer" - Is It Over? Grokipedia Has Stopped Updating
Another attempt to replace living human intelligence with machine algorithms seems to have ended in nothing. The highly publicized project, which was supposed to finally destroy traditional encyclopedias, itself ended up in a deep coma.

The Verge published the results of a study by the analytical portal Lawfare, as noted by the Telegram channel "Bel-Geek.com - Technologies and Science." The figures indicate a conceptual crisis for the online encyclopedia Grokipedia from the company xAI, which is entirely AI-generated – it has not been updated since April 24 of this year. The project, which Elon Musk himself confidently called a "massive improvement" compared to the classic Wikipedia, has been abandoned by its own creators.
The platform's history began with the typical Silicon Valley scope. In October 2025, the first version launched, with artificial intelligence instantly uploading 885,000 articles. Just a month later, after the release of version 0.2, the database grew to six million texts. The algorithms fulfilled their initial task – creating the illusion of a boundless encyclopedia, competitive with English Wikipedia. But the self-service and content-filling mechanism failed.
Researchers from Lawfare analyzed over 34,000 Grokipedia pages where users left over 225,000 suggestions for error correction. The monitoring result was zero: over the past three months, the machine system has neither accepted nor rejected a single edit. A special section of the site currently reports the absence of actual edits.
The fundamental flaw in the technocrats' approach to knowledge management was the desire to replace thousands of motivated volunteer editors with a single soulless algorithm. The idea was brilliant only at a conceptual level, but in practice, it turned out that an online encyclopedia requires constant moderation.
Social media users are already calling the project dead, and the company's founder himself has not mentioned his creation since February.
The experiment of creating a fully autonomous machine encyclopedia demonstrated its inability to develop independently without systemic human control. The traditional Wikipedia model, based on collective moderation and continuous updating by live editors, remains the only working tool for maintaining the relevance of global knowledge bases.
