Georgian authorities deported 16 Belarusian citizens in three months — a new record

A record number of Belarusian citizens — 16 — were deported in the second quarter of 2026 by the Georgian authorities, according to an analysis of local police data conducted by "Pozirk". This is twice as many as in the first quarter, which at that time was also a record, Pozirk reports .

From April to June, 15 men and one woman were deported from Georgia.

Thus, in the first half of the year, Georgia, which has been ruled since 2012 by the party of pro-Russian oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili, deported 24 Belarusian citizens. This accounts for 1.18% of all foreigners deported from the country during the specified period.

12 Belarusians (all men) were placed in a temporary detention center in the second quarter of 2026, according to police data.

In 2025, Georgia deported 6 Belarusian citizens (all men), which was an annual record.

Over the previous six years (2019-24), three Belarusian citizens were deported from this country.

General statistics indicate an activation of Georgian security forces: in 2021, 77 foreigners were deported, in 2022 — 165, in 2023 — 190, in 2024 — 363, in 2025 — 1311.

Georgia has become one of the main host countries for Belarusians who fled persecution by the Lukashenka regime in 2020 and later. Local authorities did not satisfy any of their asylum requests.
