German police have identified the alleged attacker who, late yesterday evening, drove a white car into a crowd of people in Berlin's Tiergarten district during an LGBT pride event.

The main suspect is Abdul Balut, a 21-year-old German citizen of Lebanese origin, born in Berlin in 2005. According to BILD, he may be suspected of ties to the terrorist group "Islamic State". The DPA agency also notes that law enforcement officials categorize him as part of Berlin's Islamist circles.

The young man previously had problems with the law for extortion and causing grievous bodily harm. He was only released from a juvenile detention facility in May 2026, where he was serving a sentence.

Police warn that the fugitive may be armed and very dangerous, and urge citizens not to attempt to apprehend him themselves.

Yesterday, a white van crashed into a crowd of people in Tiergarten Park around 10:00 PM. One woman died, and 17 people were injured.

It is likely that the suspect did not organize the attack alone.
