In Polesie, the water levels of rivers will be artificially increased
In Pripyat Polesie, hydraulic structures are planned to be reconstructed to increase the amount of water in rivers and improve conditions for navigation, writes BelTA.

As stated by Ruslan Maroz, a representative of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus, the problem of decreasing water levels in rivers is observed worldwide and has also affected Belarus. To solve this problem, Belarusian river services cooperate with scientific organizations and specialists who help respond to changes in natural conditions.
The state program for the development of the Pripyat Polesie regions for 2025-2030 includes measures to improve navigation. It is planned to increase the depth of rivers to at least 2.5 meters for most of the navigation period.
For this purpose, hydraulic structures will be built and reconstructed, including facilities on the eastern slope of the Dnieper-Bug Canal. These works are intended to help improve the water regime of the Pripyat River and create better conditions for the operation of large vessels that require greater depth.
In Belarus, the total length of inland waterways is about 2.1 thousand kilometers. They are located in the basins of the Dnieper, Western Dvina, and Neman rivers. The Dnieper-Bug Canal, which connects the Mukhavets River with the Pripyat, is also part of the water system.
The experience of using locks and dams on certain sections of the Pripyat, Mukhavets, Pina, and Dnieper-Bug Canal has shown that such structures help stabilize water levels and improve opportunities for cargo transportation.
