The water of Tsnyanka Reservoir has turned a strange color. Near the shore, it acquired a pearlescent hue. Minsk residents thought something might have been dumped into the reservoir. But that's not the reason.

Employees of Mingorkompriroda explain — the color of the water changed due to metaphytone, which forms during a natural process.

"Metaphytone — these are fragments of bottom and underwater surface biofouling that have floated to the surface, or plankton that has accumulated on the water's surface. Its main components are algae, bacteria, dead organic matter, invertebrates, and fungi.

According to the results of laboratory observations, the oxygen content in surface water bodies complies with the established normalized values," — say employees of Mingorkompriroda.
