The phenomenon has reached such a scale that the district newspaper raised the issue.

Recently, in Baranavichy, there has been an increase in cases where traces of vital activity appear in the common areas of apartment buildings — on stairwells, in elevators. This includes both pets and people themselves, writes «Nash Kraj».

Cleaning in the stairwells is done by utility housing service (ZHS) workers. «These are ordinary people who come to sweep, remove dust, wash floors — they maintain basic order,» the publication reminds.

— Their duties do not include eliminating the consequences of someone else's lack of manners, — says Anastasiya Yauseyeva, deputy head of the Housing and Utilities Maintenance Department (ZhREU). — Cleaners are not supposed to and are not obliged to clean up feces left by negligent guests or pets. Utility service workers are not servants for those who cross the bounds of decency. Let's respect others' hard work and remain decent people, respect our neighbors. If your pet couldn't wait until outside, please show civic responsibility and clean it up yourself.

According to ZhREU, the situation with excrement in some stairwells is crossing all boundaries.

«But even more striking is the cynicism with which some residents try to justify this. There's no point in making remarks: the standard excuse in response is that a person pays according to their utility bill, and the cleaner gets paid for it and is obliged to clean,» writes the district newspaper.

— ZhREU tariffs include maintaining cleanliness: washing floors of dust and dirt, sweeping, wiping windows. There is no and cannot be an item «elimination of human and and dog feces» there, — says Anastasiya Uladzimiraŭna.

«One way or another, the money in the utility bill does not give the right to lose one's human dignity and turn a common home into a public restroom,» the district newspaper asserts.

In the comments to the publication, there was room for both indignation and irony:

«News worthy of the city, one even feels proud of the homeland».

Some readers suggest installing more cameras. «Cameras won't help. The level of culture has fallen…» — others are convinced.

There was also a more radical suggestion: identifying culprits through DNA analysis.

And one of the readers wrote that a similar problem exists in Hrodna:

— This, it seems, is a new trend among young people. The same thing is happening on our stairwell. What's more, notes with messages are even placed in the fragrant pile. Hrodna».
