A forensic medical examination established that the cause of death was mechanical asphyxia — the airways were blocked by a foreign body. A rather large piece of raw meat was found in the deceased's larynx.

Additionally, the examination showed that the man's blood contained 2.9 per mille of ethanol. According to experts, for a living person, such an indicator can correspond to a moderate degree of acute alcohol intoxication.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 160,000 people worldwide die each year by choking on food or other objects. In Belarus, such cases also occur annually and are measured in dozens. Most of those who died were in a state of alcohol intoxication at the time of the tragedy.
