From September 1, Latvia is introducing a ban on the import of a number of industrial goods from Russia and Belarus. The country's government adopted the relevant regulations on August 25, writes Delfi.lv.

The ban will apply regardless of where the goods are actually imported from: it will affect products of Russian or Belarusian origin entering Latvia through third countries.

The restrictions will apply to printed books, newspapers and other printed matter, clothing and textiles, footwear, headwear, as well as toys, games and sports equipment.

The Latvian Saeima approved the ban back in late July, and the government's decision has now set the date for its entry into force.

As noted, the measure is intended to promote Latvia's security, reduce Russia's and Belarus's export revenues, and limit the entry of Russian propaganda materials into the country.
