to the defeated — eternal glory
and a thorny wreath of suffering,
a hopelessly sacred cause -
for those who still remain here
on the threshold of another global [event]
we will wake up countless times
with the feeling that this choice
someone made for us long ago.
though what glimmers on the horizon
cannot be discerned now through the mist,
to this final question
I will confidently answer again
whether purgatory or hell awaits,
and whatever kind of paradise it may be,
I am booking in the last hotel
a room with a view of this land.
