According to Belarusian legislation, written appeals must be answered in the state language in which they were submitted.

However, the Lyakhovichi district police responded to a letter from language activist Ihar Sluchak in Russian. He complained about this violation.

And the acting head of the Lyakhovichi police, Aliaksei Paplauski, sided with the law.

Lieutenant Colonel Paplauski assured Sluchak that "measures of financial impact" were taken against the head of the law enforcement and prevention department of the Lyakhovichi District Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Department, who prepared the improper response.
