Belarusian Association of Parents in Lithuania Proposed to Lithuanian Officials to Use Belarusian Language Instead of Russian
Belarusians offered to help Vilnius for free to translate municipal websites, document forms, and information systems into Belarusian.
The Association of Belarusian Parents in Lithuania supported Seimas Speaker Juozas Olekas, who stated that municipalities, when communicating with the Belarusian community, can use the Belarusian language instead of Russian.
The Association emphasizes that for Belarusians in Lithuania, especially for children, one of the main conditions for integration must be the study of the Lithuanian language. At the same time, according to parents, the Belarusian language helps preserve national identity. «Belarusian helps to remain Belarusians. Lithuanian helps to be part of Lithuanian society,» the appeal states.
The Association also stated that it is ready to help Vilnius for free to translate municipal websites, document forms, and information systems into Belarusian.
The statement appeared against the backdrop of a discussion in Lithuania about reducing the use of the Russian language in state institutions and the service sector and expanding opportunities for the use of languages of other national communities.
