SBU: Russia Struck Sumy Region with Depleted Uranium Drones in April

Russia used depleted uranium munitions for an attack on Ukraine's Sumy region in April 2026, reported the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
It refers to R-60M air-to-air missiles, which Russia uses as a warhead for its drones.
"During the work of the investigative and operational group and specialists of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) at the sites of enemy strikes, the level of gamma radiation from the debris of Russian drones with missiles was 8.3 and 10.5 μSv/h. These indicators significantly exceed the natural radiation background and pose a direct threat to human health.
According to the results of an examination initiated by the Security Service, it was established that the warhead of Russian missiles contains damaging elements made of depleted uranium with a total mass of 2810 grams. The substance was identified as uranium-234, uranium-235, and uranium-238," the SBU reports.
Earlier, the SBU had already reported Russia's use of depleted uranium munitions in the Chernihiv region.
