The Senegal Football Federation did not arrange medical insurance for its players for the 2026 World Cup, writes Championat.com.

According to the source, national team goalkeeper Édouard Mendy learned about this after a knee injury sustained in a group stage match against the Norway national team (2:3). To determine the exact nature of the injury, he had to undergo an MRI. The footballer paid for the examination himself from his own funds due to the lack of insurance.

It is noteworthy that the head doctor of the Senegal national football team, Abdourahman Fédior, lacked the necessary training to work with footballers. By education, he is a gynecologist.

The Senegal national team reached the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, where they lost to the Belgium national team with a score of 2:3. Despite this, the Senegalese lost three out of four matches in the tournament, advancing to the playoffs thanks to a single victory over the Iraq national team — 5:0.

After the tournament, the Football Federation decided to dismiss the national team's head coach Papa Thiaw.
