Greek-Catholic priest from Ivatsevichy sentenced for Hayun
Vitaly Bystrov was sentenced to restricted freedom.
Vitaly Bystrov
Vitaly Bystrov is 43 years old. He is originally from Kamenets. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of BSU.
Afterward, Bystrov entered a Greek-Catholic seminary and served for many years in a parish in Ivatsevichy. Last year, the parish was stripped of its registration, and soon after, Bystrov was detained and placed in a pre-trial detention center.
Recently, the Brest Regional Court tried him for «facilitating extremist activity» (Parts 1 and 2 of Article 361‑4 of the Criminal Code). The prosecution is related to the Hayun case.
Bystrov was sentenced to restricted freedom.
