Belarus has registered a semaglutide-based drug "Semavik," intended for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

It has become the first official analog of the original Danish "Ozempic" in the country and is already available to patients, writes "Meditsinsky Vestnik" (Medical Herald).

The original Danish medical drug gained worldwide fame back in 2022 thanks to its "side" effect — it helps to quickly reduce excess weight, recalls Onliner.by.

Previously, in Belarusian pharmacies, it could only be purchased with one-time permits from the Ministry of Health: the unregistered drug was imported into the country on a case-by-case basis. Because of this, the medicine was not always available in stock and in the required quantity.

Now, the Ministry of Health has officially certified an alternative. The manufacturer of the first analog registered in the country is the Russian pharmaceutical company "Geropharm."

The drug is strictly prescription-only. The price of the injection solution in pharmacies ranges between 261–280 rubles.
