Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi summarized the results of the troops' operations for May. According to him, despite the fierce pressure from the Russian army, Ukrainian forces managed to inflict serious losses on the enemy, including economic losses in the rear.
According to Syrskyi, the situation on the contact line remains difficult and dynamic — Russian troops continue their attempts to advance in the east and south of Ukraine, and the intensity of fighting has significantly increased. The hottest points remain the Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka, and Huliaipole directions.
Nevertheless, the Defense Forces of Ukraine maintain the initiative in certain areas.
"According to the results of active operations in May, the ratio of liberated to lost territories is almost +100 square kilometers in our favor. In total, since the beginning of the year, more than 600 square kilometers of Ukrainian land have been liberated," Syrskyi said.
He specifically highlighted the work of long-range systems (Deep Strike), which purposefully struck at the economy serving the war. During the month, 111 enemy targets of the military-industrial complex, energy, and fuel infrastructure were attacked.
"The direct and indirect economic damage inflicted on the enemy as a result of Deep Strike operations in May amounted to about $1.058 billion," Syrskyi said.
The head of the AFU also added that for the first time, a series of successful strikes on military-industrial complex and fuel-energy complex facilities directly in the territory of Moscow and the Moscow region were carried out within a single plan.
