How the girl attacked by stray dogs looks after being discharged
The young resident of Gomel, who was attacked by stray dogs in early May, has been discharged from the hospital. "When Lida took off her clothes at home, I turned away and cried: I just couldn't look at it," says Yulia, the girl's mother. She showed Onlíner photos of what her 11-year-old daughter looks like now, and told how the family is trying to cope with the consequences of what happened.
The incident occurred on May 8 in a forest belt near the Shvedskaya Gorka microdistrict. The schoolgirl was returning home along a path when she was attacked by stray dogs, who literally bit her all over her body.
The girl was rescued by a local resident who was passing by on a motorcycle. According to him, the dogs were large - about 40 centimeters at the withers.
Lida's condition was assessed by doctors as "extremely serious."
— The child was bitten all over, from head to toe. She was urgently taken to the operating room, — said Alexander Vinnik, head of the traumatology and orthopedic department of the Gomel Regional Children's Clinical Hospital, on the "Belarus 4" broadcast.
The girl's mother told Onlíner that she had already been discharged from the hospital.
— When Lida took off her clothes at home, I turned away and cried: I just couldn't look at it, — Yulia admits. — Her head, back of the neck, back, legs — all covered in scars and bites. Now it's summer, it's hot, and we need to think about how to choose clothes so that all this isn't visible: Lida is very ashamed of the scars and is deeply upset about it.
After discharge, the girl was prescribed to lubricate the stitches and bite marks with a special ointment to prevent scarring.
— We visited the surgeon yesterday who was present at the time of her admission to the hospital, — says Yulia. — The doctor said that her daughter was completely torn, and that the dog's fangs miraculously did not touch vital arteries. It's a good thing Alexander noticed her in time! It's terrifying to think, but the dogs could have simply mauled my child… It's nothing short of a miracle that she was saved.
According to the girl's mother, they are now concerned about the aesthetic issue: how to visually minimize the bite marks and scars in the future.
— Even before the tragedy, we bought Lida summer clothes, but they are all open. We started choosing something for a walk — she cries, is ashamed to put it on, says that the scars will be visible. And what can we offer her here, when there isn't a single uninjured spot on her? The only thing that survived is her face, — Yulia cries.
For now, the family is looking for clinics that will eventually help hide the scars and allow the girl to feel more confident.
— Of course, Lida is still a child and quickly adapts. She goes for walks, meets up with friends. Yesterday we went to the playground in the fifth microdistrict together.
My daughter was unexpectedly surrounded by children I didn't know, who started to cheer her up. It turned out they were her new friends who learned about the incident from TikTok. It was so touching! Five years ago, Lida's dad passed away, and then after some time, such a misfortune befell her. Many people supported us afterward — and I am very grateful to everyone for that.
