Trump Personally Asked Xi Jinping to Influence Putin to Stop the War in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump personally appealed to Chinese President Xi Jinping with a request to exert pressure on Vladimir Putin to stop the war in Ukraine. As reported by the South China Morning Post, citing several sources familiar with the negotiations, this issue was raised at the summit in Beijing last month.
According to the publication's interlocutors, Trump informed Xi that negotiations between Russia and Ukraine had reached a stalemate and urged him to use Beijing's influence on Moscow to bring it back to dialogue with Kyiv.
As SCMP notes, such an appeal reflects Washington's desire to more actively involve the Chinese side in the conflict resolution process, which Trump, after returning to the White House, made one of the key directions of his foreign policy.
