Pope Leo XIV responded to criticism from US President Donald Trump in a conversation with Reuters.
— I don't want to argue with him, — said the Pope, commenting on Trump's post, which stated, among other things, that «he doesn't want a Pope who thinks it's normal for Iran to have nuclear weapons».
— Too many people are suffering in today's world. Too many innocent people are dying. I believe someone should raise their voice and say that there is a better way. The message of the Church, my message, the message of the Gospel: «blessed are the peacemakers», — said Leo XIV.
The Pope added that he does not see his role as that of a politician.
— I will continue to speak out loudly against war and try to promote peace, — he declared.
